Feelings matter most |
Dementia Care Matters has an evidence based approach to developing dementia care in organisations. Our team of expert consultants and trainers apply a model consisting of 10 steps to improving the lives of people with a dementia in care settings.
Step one: Qualitative observational audits are carried out in the care setting to create a measurable 'quality of life' evidence base.
Aim: to provide a clear understanding of the current quality of care and identify key areas to concentrate on in the action plan to build strategic culture change.
Step two: Inspiring motivational launch event for managers and key staff.
Aim: to set out the vision and practical implementation of real quality in dementia care. i.e. what person centred dementia care looks, sounds and feels like.
Step three: Meeting with board/senior management.
Aim: to establish a sign-up to Dementia Care Matters "50 key methods essential to providing person centred care" and develop a realistic operational and implementation plan over an agreed time period.
Step four: Five day workshop "Leadership Matters in Person Centred Dementia Care"™ for leaders at General Manager/Home Manager level/Team Leader level.
Aim: to motivate managers' energy and understanding of what it takes to provide new culture inspirational leadership, enabling leaders to measure their service on the 50 key methods.
Step five: Allocate each manager eight key projects to develop an action plan.
Aim: to influence and measure direct improvements in quality of life for people living and working in the dementia care service.
Step six: Two day workshop on how to use the qualitative audit tool: Enabling™
Aim: to develop in house expertise to sustain quality of life by creating a team of auditors.
Step seven: Eight day Dementia Care Training Skills and Implementation workshop.
Aim: to develop a team of in house trainers who can inspire colleagues to make a lasting action based difference to the lives of people with a dementia.
Step eight: Consultancy / training days working with H.R. Professionals: Nurturing™ staffs well being.
Aim: to ensure an underpinning culture is in place for the organisation and staff that recognises and supports the emotional labour of working in dementia care.
Step nine: Expert consultancy creating and working with 'Home Action Teams' within identified services targeted to become demonstration "Butterfly services"™.
Aim: identifying individuals to work in teams to speed up learning and development in a small number of demonstration sites that will provide evidence to inspire and motivate the rest of the organisation.
Step ten: Mentoring groups of staff to include direct training and coaching on specific skills and how to create a lively, supportive and enabling care setting.
Aim: to increase positive social interactions, develop motivation and specialist skills to lead, practise, develop and achieve sustainability.
