Making Research Work in Practice

Dementia Care Matters has a strong focus on moving into new areas of Dementia Care and team members have their own individual specialisms.

Although we are not an academic body we use national databases and research methodology to develop our own and other organisations practice and health, social services and the Alzheimer's Society commission us on specific projects.

Areas we are currently working on and promoting are:

Involving people with dementia in consultation and service evaluation.

The development of 'early stage' dementia care services.

The development of 'late stage' dementia care services.

Models of Community Mental Health Teams/ Community Dementia Teams.

Focusing on team approaches in dementia care and the application of person centred care for staff.

Development of a dementia care training resources manual.

Development of a dementia day care standards manual.

Development of a strengths-based assessment and care planning pack.

The use of dolls and other 'comfort' objects with people with dementia.
