Auditing Skills: Enabling - Quality of Life - an evaluation tool  (C19)

This workshop will enable participants to learn about the details of “Enabling” which is an observation and evaluation approach. Participants will learn how to capture the lived experience of people with a dementia in terms of seeing, hearing and feeling the experience.

The Methodology uses a successful qualitative audit method which can be used in regular reflective practice sessions to change the culture of a care setting.

Key features of the 2 day workshop:

  • Working with staff on the butterfly approach.™
  • Learning how to reduce controlling care.
  • How enabling works - understanding the five types of care.
  • Setting up an observation - best practice guidelines.
  • During the workshop having an opportunity to directly practice both in the course venue - a care home and actual use of both the individual and group methodology in the care home lounges.
  • Knowing how to analyse the data and rate the care setting against other audited care homes.
  • How to draw up action plans from qualitative observations.

By the end of this workshop participants will be able to undertake a qualitative observation back in the work setting.
